When we launched Passage Preparation™, the vision was straightforward: build a preparation platform rigorous enough to uphold the high standards that govern entry into the teaching profession and accessible enough to support every aspiring educator working to meet them. What has become increasingly clear over time is that serving educators well means serving all educators — across subjects, grade levels, and roles.

That commitment is reflected in where we are today. Passage Preparation now offers nearly 50 TExES™ preparation courses, spanning a wide range of licensure areas and we are not done growing.

Broad Coverage, Built for Texas

Texas school districts face a persistent and well-documented challenge: finding qualified, certified educators to fill every classroom. The percentage of uncertified teachers in Texas more than tripled between the 2019-2020 and 2024-2025 school years, representing over 42,000 uncertified educators statewide. House Bill 2, signed into law in June 2025, responds to that reality directly by limiting the practice of placing uncertified teachers in classrooms and establishes a structured timeline for returning to full certification compliance.

At the same time, the bill introduced new funding incentives for certification pathways and residencies, including certification exam fee waivers for aspiring bilingual education and special education teachers. For Texas ISDs, the message is clear: the path forward runs through certification and supporting candidates to achieve it has never been more urgent.

The Texas Education Agency sets rigorous standards for educator licensure, and rightly so. But for many aspiring teachers, the path to certification can feel daunting, particularly when the preparation resources available to them are limited or poorly matched to the specific exam they need to pass.

Passage Preparation was built to address exactly that. Our growing TExES catalog covers core academic subjects, special education, bilingual and ESL education, school leadership, and much more. Whether a district is working to fill a secondary science vacancy, support a candidate pursuing special education certification, or develop the next generation of campus administrators, Passage Preparation offers preparation resources designed to help candidates succeed.

For Texas ISDs, that breadth of coverage matters. It means your aspiring educators, whether they are career changers, paraprofessionals pursuing full certification, or recent graduates preparing for their first licensure exam, have access to a single, trusted platform that meets them where they are, regardless of the certification area they are pursuing.

Preparation That Meets Candidates Where They Are

At Passage Preparation, we believe that upholding high standards for entry into the profession starts with giving every candidate a real opportunity to meet them. That is why Passage Preparation is designed to be comprehensive in its content aligned to specific exams and to be genuinely approachable.

Three Tiers of Support

Our foundational courses are fully asynchronous, allowing candidates to study on their own schedule while balancing a full-time job, family responsibilities, or other coursework. For candidates who need more than a self-paced course, Passage Preparation offers two additional pathways designed to provide greater structure and personalized support. Prep+ pairs full course access with a layer of synchronous support through customized, subject- or topic-specific webinars led by subject-matter experts with experience working with new and emerging educators. For candidates seeking the most intensive preparation experience, our synchronous course option provides an instructor-led, six-week deep dive into a single content area. Each model is designed to meet candidates where they are and give them the best possible opportunity to succeed on exam day.

Immersive Reader

Texas is also home to a large and growing population of bilingual educator candidates for whom English may not be their primary language. Passing a TExES exam requires demonstrating content knowledge in English, and that presents a distinct challenge for candidates who are still developing English language proficiency alongside their subject matter expertise. Our Immersive Reader feature is made available with those candidates in mind. By allowing users to have content read aloud, translate text, and adjust the visual presentation of material, Immersive Reader helps candidates engage more deeply with English-language content, building the familiarity and fluency they need to perform confidently on exam day.

Comprehensive Support

This speaks to a broader truth: the educators who make it through the certification process and into Texas classrooms come from a wide range of academic backgrounds, life experiences, and learning profiles. Passage Preparation is built to serve all of them.

A Resource for Districts, Not Just Individuals

Texas ISDs have a direct stake in the success of educator candidates. When a promising candidate fails a licensure exam that is a loss for the candidate and for the district working to fill that role. Passage Preparation can help.

Our platform gives districts a resource they can use to support aspiring educators and gauge their readiness to test. Whether you are working with grow-your-own program participants, supporting paraprofessionals on the path to full certification, or helping lateral entry candidates get ready for their TExES™ exams, Passage Preparation provides the structured, subject-specific support that makes a meaningful difference in outcomes.

As our catalog continues to grow, so does our ability to serve Texas as it builds a full pipeline of potential educators. We are committed to expanding coverage, deepening content quality, and continuing to develop features that reflect a genuine understanding of who our candidates are and what they need to succeed.

Actionable Performance Data

Passage Preparation also gives Texas ISDs meaningful visibility into candidate readiness through the Passage Preparation Portal. Rather than waiting until a candidate sits for their TExES™ exam to gauge their preparedness, district administrators can monitor detailed performance data as candidates progress through their Passage Preparation courses. The Portal surfaces results from diagnostic assessments, formative quizzes, and every attempt on summative practice tests. This actionable data gives administrators a clear, ongoing picture of where each candidate stands across the specific test domains and competencies. That level of insight allows districts to intervene early, offer targeted support, and make more informed decisions about when a candidate is ready to test.
